The Election Debate is annually held in March, open to all VNNTU undergraduate members to select the next Managing Committee. Candidates first get application approval from Panel of Judges – made up of outgoing Managing Committee – to run for Top 5 positions: President, Vice President (External Affairs), Vice President (Internal Affairs), Honorary General Secretary cum Country Representative, and Financial Controller.
During the election, the candidates engage in a public debate. The topics discussed in the debate are often the most controversial issues of the time of VNNTU community, and arguably election results have been nearly decided by these debates. The candidates meet in a medium-size theatre at NTU before an audience of VNNTU undergraduates and alumni. The formats of the debates have varied, with questions posed from moderators and members of the audience. From 2008, the debate session for Vice President (External Affairs) candidates has been carried out in English with a hypothetic business scenario.
